In 1993 Mortiz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus formed Basic Channel. Both a record label and techno act, Basic Channel became one of the main progenitors of dub-techno, which has recently enjoyed a healthy revival via Deepchord and its related artists/releases. Combining minimalistic German-techno with the hazy warmth of dub, Basic Channel crafted a sleek, but comforting new sound whose echoes can be heard in the skittish dissonance of Pole's first three classic releases as well as Burial's ghostly dub-step.
